In the local paper a week or so ago, there was a story on a woman in her 60′s who, ten years ago, made a list of the goals she wanted to accomplish in her life. They weren’t goals like most people’s, like balance the checkbook, get the oil changed, finish the laundry….they were BIG goals, like walk the Great Wall of China, publish and produce a play, stuff like that. It took her ten years to accomplish her 20 goals, and now she’s made a list of 20 more. She funds all this by entering (and winning!) sweepstakes and contests.
Well, that sure made me sit up and think. Maybe my goals are too small, or too narrow. Maybe I need to expand my horizons a little. Not that we don’t need the little goals, but perhaps we need to extend our reach beyond what we think we can do, in order to push ourselves to realize our full potential.
With that in mind, I have made my own 20 Goals To Do Before I Die And Go To Hell list:
1. Swim with the dolphins.
2. Write (or finish) a novel or collection of short stories and get it published.
3. Perfect a stand-up comedy routine and perform it live on Jay Leno.
4. Learn HTML and build my own website. (Small to you, but huge to me.)
5. Experience ten orgasms within a 24 hour period. (Hey, this is my list, ok??)
6. Travel to England to visit the London Tower and Stonehenge.
7. Meet Stephen King and bitch him out for taking my book title.
8. Learn to drive a motorcycle.
9. Take my 9 college credits and parlay that into an actual degree.
10. Learn herbology and aromatherapy and become a holistic healer. With robes and everything.
11. Take cooking classes.
12. Get all three of my children together for a professional portrait. (Harder than it sounds, friends and neighbors.)
13. Meet in person the four people I have met on the internet that have been so influential in my life. Party like it’s 1999.
14. Play Texas hold ‘em in a professional tournament at the Bellagio in Las Vegas and finish in the money.
15. See the Pacific Ocean (the place of my birth) one more time.
16. Travel to Ireland to kiss the blarney stone.
17. Learn to play the piano.
18. Visit the penguins in Antarctica.
19. Participate in “Trading Spaces” or “Trailer Fabulous”.
20. Go for another ten orgasms.
No limits, peeps. That’s what you have to strive for. The little goals are very important – it’s what keeps our day to day world moving on. But the big ones – well, that’s what keeps our dreams alive, and without dreams we’re just monkeys doing what we do because the other monkeys do it. And I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be just another monkey.
So make your goal lists, people….make ‘em big…don’t be just another monkey. Feel free to post your own goal lists and tell me what you’re reaching for.

Well, I’ve accomplished two (almost three) things on your list…and yes, one of them IS #5.
That’s hilarious. I’m wondering how one can accomplish #5. It would be wonderful if it were possible. How did the woman get so lucky to win in sweepstakes? Oh, I get it now! I’d probably be able to accomplish #5 too if I keep winning in the sweepstakes. LOL.
Tasha
You do think big! Every thing on your list looks doable and challenging except #12. That one might be the hardest challenge of all.
Did the article list what like of sweeps stakes and contest the woman competed in?
lala, I’m going to email you for your secrets. Heh.
Tasha, that was so funny! I wonder if that’s the secret — entering and winning sweepstakes. Might be easier that way.
Carol, don’t I know it! Once they’re grown and gone their own ways, it’s really hard getting them all together.
The article didn’t say — believe me, I was looking hard. It’s quite a business for her. I guess the key is persistence — and that, my friend, I have.
Thanks for popping by, and I hope to see your lists as well!
Go big or go home, I guess is the lesson.
Well very inspiring (i dont know your original name ). Anyway the dreams listing is good and they are sweet when they are materialised . Dreams are nurtured with personal care. I have my dreams in dormant forms and after going through your post i think i will have to enlive them . Your dreams list is great. Thank you. Keep it up
An inspiring and amusing list — thought I think you should add a final goal: 21) Not go to hell (since that’s where you claimed you would be going …)
you really ave many goal? i hope you manage to do that
@ sudam — thank you! I admit, some of it was tongue-in-cheek (meaning, not very serious) but the more I look at it, the more seriously I’m starting to take it.
@ Jennifer — thanks
If I believed in hell, that would be a good idea.
Thanks for popping by.
@ reddebt — thanks. I make a lot of lists, but if I accomplish even half of what’s on here, I’ll be happy.
“20 Goals To Do Before I Die And Go To Hell list” I like that! I want to make a list, now.
For my birthday two years ago I told my boyfriend that I wanted the amount of orgasms for how old I was turning and oddly enough, I was worn out before he was. Good times…No, make that great times!
If I had that many orgasms for my birthday I’d be dead by noon.
Heh.
to be applauded. and i hope you achieve at least your favourites. and yes, i’ll include #5 in that.
lala. oh, lala lala lala.
GREAT list!!!
I should get a list together. Something to work towards. #5… well, wow. I should put that on my list for sure! I’ll hit you and Lala up for advice. lol
@rt LOL!
@ Lisa — hey, it’s something to shoot for, right? If I don’t accomplish it, at least I tried.
